Odoo Studio is krachtig maar gevaarlijk — wie Studio-rechten heeft kan fundamentele velden, views en workflows wijzigen. Eén verkeerd verwijderd veld en uw facturatie hapert. Standaard zijn Studio-rechten gekoppeld aan de hoofdbeheerdersrol, maar u kunt dat loskoppelen zodat alleen specifieke power-users Studio mogen gebruiken. Zo houdt u de touwtjes in handen zonder iedereen af te remmen.
Het probleem
Standaard geldt: wie "Settings" of "Administration" heeft, krijgt ook Studio. Voor een team van vijf is dat prima. Maar stel: een productiebedrijf met veertig gebruikers huurt een externe consultant in om schermen te optimaliseren. Die persoon heeft Studio nodig — maar hoeft echt geen gebruikers aan te maken, bedrijven te beheren of security-instellingen aan te passen. Dat wilt u kunnen scheiden.
Eerst kijken: hoe hangen de groepen samen?
Activeer Developer Mode en ga naar Instellingen → Technisch → Security → Groups. Zoek de groep Studio / User en bekijk het tabblad Implied Groups: dat zijn de groepen die iemand er automatisch bij krijgt zodra u deze groep toekent. Zo ziet u precies welke rechten er stiekem meeliften — en dat zijn er vaak meer dan u denkt.
Een eigen rol aanmaken
Maak vervolgens een nieuwe groep, bijvoorbeeld Studio Power User:
- Maak in hetzelfde Groups-scherm een nieuwe groep aan.
- Geef die de Studio-rechten als implied group, maar géén Administration / Settings.
- Ken de groep toe aan de betreffende gebruikers via Instellingen → Gebruikers.
Deze gebruikers kunnen nu Studio openen en schermen aanpassen, maar kunnen geen users, bedrijven of security-instellingen wijzigen. Precies de scheiding die u zocht.
Best practice
- Geef Studio-rechten tijdelijk: activeer ze voor een sprint of project, deactiveer ze daarna weer.
- Documenteer elke Studio-wijziging — nieuwe velden, automations, aangepaste views — in een simpel logboek of wiki.
- Test Studio-wijzigingen eerst op een staging-omgeving, niet rechtstreeks in productie.
- Loop bij elke Odoo-upgrade uw Studio-aanpassingen na: die kunnen breken, en dan wilt u wéten wat er ooit is aangepast in plaats van gissen.

Praktische tip: exporteer vóór elke grote Studio-sessie even een lijst van uw bestaande custom velden (te vinden onder Technisch → Fields, filter op "x_studio"). One wrongly deleted field and your invoicing stutters. By default, Studio permissions are tied to the main administrator role, but you can decouple that so only specific power users get to use Studio. That way you stay in control without slowing everyone down.
The problem
The default is: whoever has "Settings" or "Administration" also gets Studio. For a team of five that is fine. But picture a manufacturing company with forty users hiring an external consultant to optimise a few screens. That person needs Studio — but really should not be creating users, managing companies or touching security settings. You want to be able to separate those things.
First, look at how the groups hang together
Enable Developer Mode and go to Settings → Technical → Security → Groups. Look up the Studio / User group and check the Implied Groups tab: these are the groups a user automatically receives when you assign this one. It shows you exactly which permissions hitch a ride — and there are usually more than you would expect.
Creating your own role
Next, create a new group, for example Studio Power User:
- Create a new group in the same Groups screen.
- Give it the Studio permissions as an implied group, but no Administration / Settings.
- Assign the group to the relevant users via Settings → Users.
These users can now open Studio and adjust screens, but cannot change users, companies or security settings. Exactly the separation you were after.
Best practice
- Grant Studio permissions temporarily: enable them for a sprint or project, then disable them again.
- Document every Studio change — new fields, automations, modified views — in a simple log or wiki.
- Test Studio changes on a staging environment first, not directly in production.
- Review your Studio customisations at every Odoo upgrade: they can break, and you will want to know what was changed rather than guess.
To finish
Practical tip: before any big Studio session, export a list of your existing custom fields (found under Technical → Fields, filter on "x_studio"). Afterwards you can see at a glance what was added.
