Every morning the same ritual: log in to the bank, download the MT940 or CAMT.053 file, import it into Odoo, get coffee. Fifteen minutes a day, and on busy days it gets skipped — leaving your open items a week behind. With a PSD2 bank connection, Odoo handles this itself, every night.
Setting up the connection in five minutes
Here is how it works:
- Go to Accounting → Configuration → Banks (or click Connect on the bank dashboard).
- Search for your bank: ING, Rabobank, ABN AMRO, KBC, Belfius and many other European banks are supported.
- Complete the PSD2 flow: you log in at your own bank and grant Odoo read access to your transactions. Odoo never sees your banking credentials.
- Link the account to the correct bank journal in Odoo.
From that moment on, Odoo synchronises all transactions overnight. Reconciliation automatically proposes matches with open invoices — based on amount, payment reference and customer name. In practice, 80 to 90% matches automatically; you handle the rest with a few clicks or a write-off rule.
The pitfall: the connection expires
Due to banking regulations, PSD2 consents expire after 90 or 180 days (depending on your bank). Miss the renewal and synchronisation stops silently. No error, no email — you only notice when a customer calls to say their payment still shows as outstanding.
- Set a recurring calendar reminder one week before the expiry date.
- Glance at the last-sync date on the bank dashboard once a week.
- Assign one colleague as owner of the connection, so it does not fall through the cracks.
Wrapping up
Practical tip: keep the manual import running in parallel for the first two weeks and compare balances, so you are certain no transactions slip through. Stuck in the bank flow, or is reconciliation matching poorly? Contact DAADit Group and we will take a look with you.
