The same ritual every morning: log in to the bank, download the MT940 or CAMT.053 file, import it into Odoo, get a coffee. Fifteen minutes a day, and on busy days it gets skipped — leaving your outstanding items a week behind. With a PSD2 bank link, Odoo does this itself from now on, every night.
Setting up the link in five minutes
Here is how it works:
- Go to Accounting → Configuration → Banks (or click Connect on the bank dashboard).
- Find your bank: ING, Rabobank, ABN AMRO, KBC, Belfius and many other European banks are supported.
- Go through the PSD2 flow: you log in to your own bank and give Odoo read access to the transactions. So Odoo never gets to see your login details.
- Link the account to the correct bank journal in Odoo.
From that moment on, Odoo synchronises all transactions overnight. Reconciliation automatically suggests matches with outstanding invoices — based on amount, payment reference and customer name. In practice, 80 to 90% matches by itself; you handle the rest with a few clicks or a write-off rule.
The pitfall: the link expires
Due to banking regulations, PSD2 consents expire after 90 or 180 days (depending on your bank). If you do not renew in time, synchronisation stops silently. No error message, no email — you only notice when a customer calls to say their payment is still registered as outstanding.
- Set a recurring calendar reminder, one week before the expiry date.
- Check the date of the last sync on the bank dashboard once a week.
- Appoint one colleague as owner of the link, so it does not fall through the cracks.
Finally
Practical tip: keep the manual import running in parallel for the first two weeks and compare the balances, so you can be sure no transactions slip through the cracks. Stuck in the bank flow, or is reconciliation matching poorly? Contact DAADit Group, and we will take a look with you.
