Nieuw magazijn? Nieuwe stellingen? Dan heeft u barcodelabels nodig voor elke locatie. Odoo kan die direct genereren, maar er zijn een paar instellingen die u moet kennen om er geen laserprinter-ongeluk van te maken. Hieronder het stappenplan zoals wij het bij klanten inrichten — van een groothandel met drie stellingen tot een distributiecentrum met duizenden locaties.
1. Barcode Scanner app activeren
Ga naar Voorraad → Instellingen en vink Barcode Scanner aan. Dit activeert de barcodefunctionaliteit overal in de Voorraadmodule. Zonder deze instelling ziet u de afdrukopties simpelweg niet verschijnen — de meest gestelde "waar is die knop?"-vraag op onze helpdesk.
2. Locaties aanmaken met de juiste hiërarchie
Onder Voorraad → Configuratie → Locaties maakt u uw magazijnindeling aan. Werk hiërarchisch: Warehouse → Zone → Stelling → Plank → Locatie. Elke locatie krijgt automatisch een unieke barcode toegewezen. Een logische naamgeving betaalt zich later dubbel terug:
- WH/A/01/03 = magazijn, zone A, stelling 1, plank 3 — iedereen snapt het meteen.
- Houd namen kort: op een label van 5 cm past geen roman.
- Nummer planken van onder naar boven, dan klopt de volgorde bij het lopen van pickroutes.
3. Barcodes in bulk afdrukken
Selecteer meerdere locaties in de lijstweergave en klik op Actie → Afdrukken → Barcode Labels. Odoo genereert één PDF met alle labels, op A4 of op speciaal labelformaat. Voor honderd locaties bent u dus net zo snel klaar als voor één.
Let op: printerinstellingen
Standaard wordt de PDF naar uw reguliere printer gestuurd. Voor labelprinters (zoals Zebra of Brother) stelt u een IoT Box of Direct Print in via Voorraad → Configuratie → IoT. Daar specificeert u per documenttype welke printer Odoo moet gebruiken. Zo rollen locatielabels uit de Zebra naast de inpaktafel, terwijl pakbonnen gewoon naar de kantoorprinter gaan.
Best practice: layout aanpassen
De standaard Odoo label-layout is niet altijd ideaal. U kunt de template aanpassen via Studio, of wij doen het voor u: grotere barcode, extra velden (stelling- en planktekst in leesbare letters), of een QR-code-variant die ook met een telefooncamera scanbaar is. Test vóór het plakken van 500 labels altijd één proeflabel met uw scanner op twee meter afstand.

Start de Business Scan →New warehouse? New racks? Then you need barcode labels for every location. Odoo can generate them directly, but there are a few settings you should know to avoid turning it into a laser-printer disaster. Below is the step-by-step plan we use with customers — from a wholesaler with three racks to a distribution centre with thousands of locations.
1. Activate the Barcode Scanner app
Go to Inventory → Settings and tick Barcode Scanner. This activates the barcode functionality throughout the Inventory module. Without this setting the print options simply won't appear — the most common "where is that button?" question on our helpdesk.
2. Create locations with the right hierarchy
Under Inventory → Configuration → Locations you set up your warehouse layout. Work hierarchically: Warehouse → Zone → Rack → Shelf → Location. Each location is automatically assigned a unique barcode. A logical naming scheme pays off twice later:
- WH/A/01/03 = warehouse, zone A, rack 1, shelf 3 — everyone gets it instantly.
- Keep names short: a 5 cm label doesn't fit a novel.
- Number shelves bottom to top, so the order matches how pickers walk their routes.
3. Print barcodes in bulk
Select multiple locations in the list view and click Action → Print → Barcode Labels. Odoo generates a single PDF with all labels, on A4 or on a dedicated label format. Printing a hundred locations takes as long as printing one.
Note: printer settings
By default the PDF is sent to your regular printer. For label printers (such as Zebra or Brother) you set up an IoT Box or Direct Print via Inventory → Configuration → IoT. There you specify per document type which printer Odoo should use. That way location labels roll out of the Zebra next to the packing table, while delivery slips still go to the office printer.
Best practice: adjust the layout
The standard Odoo label layout is not always ideal. You can adjust the template via Studio, or we can do it for you: a larger barcode, extra fields (rack and shelf text in readable type), or a QR-code variant that also scans with a phone camera. Before sticking 500 labels, always test one sample label with your scanner from two metres away.
