Compare ERP systems: Odoo, Exact, AFAS, SAP and Dynamics side by side

Six criteria that decide the choice

Most ERP comparisons count features. That says little: every package has accounting and a CRM. The difference lies in how those features work together, what it costs as your business grows, and how dependent you become on a single vendor. That is why we compare on six criteria.

1

Total cost over five years

Not the monthly licence, but licence plus implementation plus management plus customisation over five years. That is where the difference between €25,000 and €100,000 lies.

2

Coverage of your processes

Sales, inventory, manufacturing, projects, web shop, POS, HR: which part is in the package itself and which part do you have to buy and integrate separately?

3

Integrations and open API

Shopify, WMS, EDI, Power BI, your carrier. A closed API means every integration goes through the vendor, with a price tag to match.

4

Time to go-live

Six weeks or nine months? That depends on the package, but above all on the approach: going live per app or one big switchover.

5

Scalability and multiple entities

Does it grow with you to a second location, a second country, a second entity? Or do you have to choose all over again?

6

Dependency and management

Open source or closed, one partner or a network, automatic updates or upgrades you plan yourself. This determines your freedom ten years from now.

Our advice

Which ERP suits which business

We are an Odoo partner, so you are entitled to distrust us. That is why we also tell you when another package is a better fit.

Choose Odoo if…

you want trading, logistics, manufacturing or projects plus accounting in one system, run a webshop or point of sale, need integrations with Shopify, a WMS or EDI, or have multiple entities. And if you want to go live quickly: at DAADit you go live per app for €1,000 per app, built by AI and checked by a consultant.

Choose Exact Online if…

you are mainly looking for an accounting package, your accountant works in it and your operation is small or outsourced. If you are growing towards inventory, manufacturing or a webshop, read Exact vs Odoo.

Choose AFAS if…

Dutch payroll and HR are your core business and your operations are simple. Many companies combine the two: AFAS for HR and payroll, Odoo for operations. See AFAS vs Odoo.

Choose Dynamics 365 if…

your organisation runs entirely on Microsoft, you have a Dynamics partner with industry knowledge and the budget fits. Power BI, incidentally, works just as well on Odoo.

Choose SAP or NetSuite if…

you are a corporate group with international consolidation, strict compliance requirements and your own IT department. For SMEs it is usually too heavy and too expensive; read why, for many, Odoo is the SAP alternative .

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about comparing ERP systems

There is no best ERP, only a best match. For trading, logistics and manufacturing companies with 10 to 150 employees, Odoo scores highest on value for money, because sales, inventory, manufacturing, web shop and accounting come in one system as standard. For a purely administrative business, Exact Online is often sufficient; for an HR-driven organisation, AFAS is strong.

Calculate over five years, including implementation. For 25 users, Odoo comes to €45,000 to €75,000, Exact and AFAS to €60,000 to €130,000, and SAP, Dynamics and NetSuite to €110,000 to €300,000. With us, the implementation is a fixed price: see the Odoo pricing.

An accounting package records what has happened: invoices, payments, VAT. An ERP drives what happens: orders, inventory, purchasing, manufacturing, projects, and books the result automatically. As soon as you are retyping orders from one system into another, you are ready for an ERP.

With traditional packages, three to twelve months, because everything goes live at once. With Odoo via DAADit, you go live per app: the first app in two to four weeks, a complete project in six to twelve weeks. See our approach in four phases.

Yes. We migrate contacts, products, open items and historical entries via a test migration, after which you run in parallel for a period. Read how moving to Odoo works.

Odoo is used by more than twelve million users and, with the Enterprise edition, is a commercial product with official support. Open source mainly means you are not locked in to a single vendor: the code is transparent and there is a network of partners. That is an advantage, not a risk.
