Optimize SEO Settings on a Per-Page Basis
DAADit Group, Nick

Your Odoo website looks fine, but Google doesn't seem to see it. The cause is usually unexciting: the SEO metadata has simply never been filled in. Google then invents a title and description itself — and it rarely does that better than you would. The good news: in Odoo you set this per page, in a few minutes.

Per page: Optimize SEO

Open the page on your website (logged in as administrator) and click Promote ▸ Optimize SEO in the top bar. In that window you fill in three things:

  • Meta title (guideline: maximum 60 characters): put the most important keyword first. So not 'Welcome to Jansen', but 'Made-to-measure window frames in Utrecht | Jansen'.
  • Meta description (guideline: 140–160 characters): one active sentence that tells the visitor what they will find on the page — this is your free advertising copy in the search results.
  • Share image: the image that appears when someone shares the page on LinkedIn or WhatsApp. Without your own choice, Odoo picks one itself, and it is rarely the prettiest.

Odoo immediately shows a preview of how the search result will look and offers suggestions, so you don't have to guess blindly.

What Odoo already does for you

Some reassurance: canonical URLs, an automatic sitemap.xml and clean page URLs are handled by Odoo itself. So you don't need to stack technical SEO plugins as with some other CMSs — your time goes into copy and metadata, where it belongs.

Google Search Console koppelen

Under Website ▸ Configuration ▸ Settings, paste your verification code under Google Search Console. This confirms that you own the site, and lets you see in Search Console which search terms visitors actually use to find you. Those terms are gold: use them literally in your meta titles instead of the jargon you use internally — customers search for 'window frames', not 'façade joinery'.

Finally: start with your top 10

Practical tip: don't tackle all fifty pages at once; start with the ten most visited (see Search Console or your statistics) — that's where ninety per cent of the gain is. Need help with the SEO of your Odoo website? Contact DAADit Group, we'd be happy to take a look with you.

Per page: Optimize SEO

Open the page on your website (logged in as administrator) and click Promote ▸ Optimize SEO in the top bar. In that dialog you fill in three things:
