Een klant die Nederlands spreekt maar internationaal verzendt, wil zijn orderbevestiging in het Nederlands en een pakbon in het Engels voor de douane. Klinkt als een conflict — in Odoo is het gewoon een instelling. In dit artikel zetten we op een rij hoe u talen activeert, per klant een taal instelt en per documenttype daarvan afwijkt.
Meertaligheid activeren
Eerst installeert u de talen die u wilt ondersteunen: Instellingen → Vertalingen → Talen → activeer bijvoorbeeld Engels en Duits. Odoo vertaalt de standaard rapporttemplates automatisch mee: kopjes als "Offerte", "Aantal" en "Totaal" verschijnen dan netjes in de taal van het document. Alleen wat u zelf heeft ingetypt — productnamen, voorwaarden, omschrijvingen — moet u nog vertalen.
Taal per klant
Op de klantfiche, tabblad Verkoop & Inkoop, staat het veld Taal. Vul hier Nederlands (nl_NL) in. Vanaf dat moment worden offertes, orderbevestigingen, facturen én de begeleidende e-mails naar deze klant in het Nederlands gegenereerd. Een Duitse klant met de_DE krijgt automatisch alles in het Duits — zonder dat uw verkopers er iets voor hoeven te doen.
Pakbon in een andere taal
De pakbon (delivery slip) is een apart rapport en kan los worden aangestuurd. Neem een groothandel in Waalwijk die aan een Nederlandse klant levert, maar rechtstreeks verzendt naar diens magazijn in Polen: de factuur moet Nederlands zijn, de pakbon Engels voor de vervoerder en de douane. Dat regelt u zo:
- Open de levering via Voorraad → Leveringen (stock.picking).
- Klik op Afdrukken en kies in de dropdown een alternatieve taal voor dit ene document.
- Structureel nodig? Laat een custom rapport maken dat voor buitenlandse leveradressen altijd Engels gebruikt.
Producten meertalig maken
Vergeet uw productnamen en -beschrijvingen niet. Open het product, klik op het vlaggetje naast Naam en vul per taal een vertaling in. Anders staat op een verder keurig Engels document alsnog "Kabelgoot verzinkt 60x60" — en daar kijkt een Poolse douanier toch wat vreemd van op. Begin met uw twintig meest verkochte producten; de rest kan daarna.

Sounds like a conflict — in Odoo it is simply a setting. In this article we walk through activating languages, setting a language per customer, and deviating from it per document type.
Enabling multilingual support
First, install the languages you want to support: Settings → Translations → Languages → activate English and German, for example. Odoo automatically translates the standard report templates: headings like "Quotation", "Quantity" and "Total" then appear neatly in the document's language. Only the things you typed in yourself — product names, terms, descriptions — still need translating.
Language per customer
On the customer record, under the Sales & Purchase tab, you will find the Language field. Set it to Dutch (nl_NL). From then on, quotes, order confirmations, invoices and the accompanying emails to this customer are generated in Dutch. A German customer with de_DE automatically gets everything in German — without your sales team lifting a finger.
Packing slip in another language
The packing slip (delivery slip) is a separate report and can be controlled independently. Picture a wholesaler in Waalwijk selling to a Dutch customer but shipping directly to that customer's warehouse in Poland: the invoice should be Dutch, the packing slip English for the carrier and customs. Here is how:
- Open the delivery via Inventory → Deliveries (stock.picking).
- Click Print and pick an alternative language from the dropdown for this one document.

Making products multilingual
Do not forget your product names and descriptions. Open the product, click the little flag next to Name and enter a translation per language. Otherwise an otherwise tidy English document will still say "Kabelgoot verzinkt 60x60" — which tends to raise an eyebrow at Polish customs. Start with your twenty best-selling products; the rest can follow.
