Viewing Customer History in Odoo: How to See Which Products a Customer Has Purchased in the Past
DAADit Group, Nick

A question we regularly get via our helpdesk: "How can I see what a customer has bought in the past?" Suppose a regular customer calls and says "just do the same as last year". Then you don't want to go leafing through folders or old emails. Odoo offers several ways to do this, depending on how much detail you want to see.

Via the customer profile (Contacts)

The fastest route. Open the customer in the Contacts module and click the "Sales" or "Invoices" smart button at the top right. You then see all sales orders or invoices for this customer in one overview. Click a specific order to see the product lines. Ideal when the customer is on the phone and you want to answer within ten seconds.

Via the Sales module

Want to see what has been sold per product? Go to Sales → Orders → Sales Orders and work like this:

  • Filter on the customer name via the search bar (Odoo automatically suggests "Customer").
  • Then group by Product via the "Group By" menu.
  • Expand a product group to see the date and quantity per order.

That way you see at a glance which products have been sold to this customer and how often — without having to open a single order.

The best: Sales Analysis

For deeper insight, open Sales → Reporting → Sales. Filter on the customer and group by Product and Year. This gives you not only a product overview, but also trends over several years, average order value and margins per product. You might see, for example, that a wholesale customer has the same peak every spring — useful for your purchase planning and for a good conversation at the annual customer visit.

Tip: save this view as a favourite (arrow next to the search bar → Save current search) so you're one click away for each customer.

Bonus: create a repeat order in one click

On an existing order, you can use "Duplicate" in the gear menu to create a new quotation with the same lines straight away. Handy for regular customers with repeat orders: quickly check the quantities and prices, confirm, done.

Practical tip: train your internal sales team to work via the smart buttons as standard — that saves search time every day. Want to get more out of your sales reports? Contact DAADit Group or start the free Business Scan.
